Video Poker is a favored game that is able to be bet on in casinos around the globe, or alternatively at your house on your computer, through an Internet connection. The game rules are very straightforward and consist of the player trying to get the best assemblage of cards possible in order to win cash. In this respect it is much the same as a normal game of poker, apart from the involvement with other players. Of course, techniques employed during a physical game of poker, such as tricking, will be useless in Video Poker.

The game of Video Poker starts when the player puts credits (whether it’s tokens, credit slips or money) into the machine and presses the draw button. A hand of 5 cards will be electronically ‘dealt’ on the video screen.

The Electronic Poker machine also has buttons with ‘hold’ written on them, and bettors should now pick which cards to hold and which to discard. For the cards the player wishes to retain, the ‘hold’ buttons should be pressed so that they illuminate. The player can decide to keep any number of cards they want, from all to none.

After the player has decided on which cards he would like to retain, they should press ‘draw’, at which point any new cards will be dealt if desired. The game is now finished, with the Electronic Poker machine scanning the cards to see if it matches any of the winning hands printed on the payment schedule.

Generally, the minimum succeeding hand on an Electronic Poker machine is a pair of jacks with the award money growing for each better hand. A common list of winning hands begins with jacks or better, moving on to 2 pairs, three of a kinds, straights, flushes, full houses, four of a kinds, straight flushes and last but not least royal flushes. It definitely goes without saying that the payment schedule can change from machine to machine, so that knowledgeable gamblers are able to choose the most beneficial machine each time.

After the first round has played out, the player can either choose to stay on and try to to increase their earnings, or press the ‘collect’ button to retrieve any credits that have been won. Additionally, some versions of the game allow the gambler a chance to double their winnings, in which situation another hand is played. There are also differences between specific machines, with some virtual decks having wild cards and other differing elements to increase playability.
