Of course, techniques used in a physical game of poker, such as bluffing, will be useless in Video Poker.

The game of Electronic Poker begins when the bettor inserts credits (whether it is tokens, tickets or money) into the video poker machine and presses the play button. A hand of five cards will then be electronically ‘dealt’ on the screen.

For the cards the bettor would like to retain, the ‘hold’ buttons should be pressed so that they illuminate. The player can choose to keep any number of cards they want, whether it’s all or none.

After the enthusiast has chosen which cards he would like to keep, the player will then press ‘draw’, at which point any fresh cards are needed they will be handed out. The hand is now completed, with the Video Poker machine analyzing the hand to see if it matches any of the winning hands printed on the pay out schedule.

Generally, the lowest winning hand on an Electronic Poker machine is a pair of jacks with the award money getting larger for each and every better hand. A list of common winning hands begins with jacks or better, moving on to two pairs, three of a kinds, straights, flushes, full houses, 4 of a kinds, straight flushes and finally royal flushes. It should be known that the pay out schedule can range from game to game, so that experienced players are agile enough to choose the most profitable ones each time.

Once the initial round has completed, the player can either decide to stay on in an attempt to increase their earnings, or they can press the ‘collect’ button to cash out any credits that might been won. Additionally, a few versions of the game give the gambler a chance to increase their wins, in which case a further round is played. There are also variations between individual machines, with some decks of cards including wild cards and other varying elements to increase playability.
